What goes through the mind of a man who knows that his enemies are plotting to destroy him? Psychologically, human beings respond to an existential threat in one of three ways: fight, freeze or flight. Jesus neither fights nor freezes in the face of those who are hostile towards Him. He does not flee either but He chooses to avoid any direct confrontation and wisely appears only in public spaces such as the Temple of Jerusalem where there are crowds to avoid being secretly abducted. He continues to speak about His true identity although this is the very reason for the death threats against Him. Two levels of truth exist here: Jesus is the carpenter from Nazareth. This is the only known truth to the people who oppose Jesus. But as Son of God, Jesus is also the long-awaited Messiah. This is what enraged His enemies who see this ultimate Truth as blasphemous.

Jesus does not claim anything for Himself but pledges obedience to the Father: "Yet I have not come of Myself, no, there is One who sent Me and I really come from Him, and you do not know Him, but I know Him because I have come from Him and it was He who sent Me." Even with His enemies plotting to kill Him, Jesus does not fight, freeze or flee, He stays true to the mission the Father sent Him for: to give His life as a ransom for many.

Lord Jesus, hold me when others rage to deny my innocence.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day jul be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
