The episode of dissent by Aaron and Miriam because of Moses' marriage to the Cushite woman came to the Lord's attention. All three came before the Lord. In their folly against Moses' closeness with the Lord, they failed to see their prejudice. It was the Lord's affirmative words that Moses held a special favoured role that eventually set them straight, especially to Miriam who then contracted leprosy. However, Moses pleaded to the Lord for compassion, rather than revelling in retribution. He asked the Lord to heal his sister since they admitted their wrong. Moses' forgiving nature, and faith in God's power to heal, is an example for us to trust in God.
On the lake episode, the disciples' terrified cry to Jesus was met with assurances. Jesus' call to Peter to walk on water and come to Him was an assurance rather than a challenge. Yet, frightened by the force of the winds, Peter began to sink and was only saved when he called out to Jesus and managed to hold on to His hand. Within the safe embrace of Christ, the sea and the disciples were calmed. Upon reaching the shore of Gennesaret,Jesus was sought after and those who touched the fringe of His cloak were healed. These small gestures of crying out and holding on to Jesus' hand and touching the fringe of His cloak, are efforts which the Lord will not refuse but will reward with assurances.
Lord, grant that even the smallest of ways to assure others of You restore our communal trust.
