How To Pray With Shalom

Both the first reading and the Gospel emphasise the importance of staying connected to God through prayer. Jesus often withdrew Himself to a lonely place and prayed. To withdraw oneself to solitude is not to close our eyes and be disconnected from the world. Nor is it an uncaring attitude towards the world. On the contrary, prayer opens wide our eyes to connect with the world in a more prudent and compassionate attitude.

The people were attracted by Jesus' healing power. However, after healing the leper, Jesus withdraws to pray in a quiet place. The intensity of Jesus' words "I am willing. Be cleansed," is the fruit of prayer. In the midst of a busy life, we need to make time for prayer and not be busy for fame.

Prayer connects us to God. Its intention is not only to remain close to God, but to know His will by listening to the way He speaks and acts among the crowds. By looking at Jesus, we learn to connect ourselves appropriately in our immediate world. We find strength to accomplish our daily tasks. Hence, like Jesus, we step away from unnecessary distractions and spend time in prayer. Through prayer, we find the peace and direction we need to face challenges, to care for others, and to live out our faith.

Loving our neighbour, the poor and the least of society are important practices that are energized by our prayer, our connection with God.

Lord, guide me through prayer so I may deliver the good to others according to Your will. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day jul be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
