INTENTION : For evangelisation in the city. Let us pray that in large cities often marked by anonymity and loneliness, we find new ways to proclaim the Gospel, discovering creative paths to build community.

FOCUS

Life in cities is a great opportunity for meeting others. More than half of the world's population now lives in urban areas. However, our neighbourhoods and buildings, commercial zones, and outskirts often become anonymous and sad for many. Population growth, migration, and lack of urban planning have led to a high level of concentration, bringing social and community challenges. Proclaiming the Gospel in this context awakens our creativity. We pray and mobilise so that the Church becomes a place open to all, welcoming, capable of reforming itself with boldness to reach out to those who feel most alone and truly witness the Good News brought by Jesus.

ATTITUDE OF THE HEART

Evangelising big cities with creativity. Making the Gospel visible in what is hidden. In the city, many go unnoticed. So does faith. But there, in what is hidden and ordinary, we can sow presence, connection, compassion.

To make the Gospel visible is to embody it in urban life, where everything seems fast-paced, but the heart still longs for the Lord. (cf Steps 8 and 9, The Way of the Heart. Mission. A Worldwide Network of Prayer and Service.)

OTHER DAILY ATTITUDES TO LIVE THIS PRAYER INTENTION

1. Discover God in urban life:
Pause and look with faith: in every face, every story, every corner there is a seed of God.

2. Build community in the midst of anonymity:
Where there is isolation, sow connection. Where there is loneliness, offer listening.

3. Evangelise through everyday gestures:
It's not always about preaching, but about living with coherence and closeness.

4. Be a Church that goes forth, concretely:
The city needs communities that go out, listen, and embrace.

5. Pray for the city and its challenges:
Intercession is also part of the evangelising mission; therefore, let us pray for those living in conditions created by city life that are not ideal.

MONTHLY PRAYER

Lord Jesus, Good Shepherd,
You walk through our streets and squares,
enter tall buildings and humble neighbourhoods,
and silently accompany millions
who seek meaning amid noise and haste.

You know, Lord, the heart of the city:
its lights and shadows, its noise and loneliness.
We know that cities are called to be
places of freedom and opportunity, but
they can also become spaces of anonymity and isolation.

That's why today we ask You for a renewed gaze,
able to discover in urban life
fertile ground for proclaiming Your Gospel.
Give us a creative and deep faith,
that doesn't remain in words,
but becomes flesh through simple and loving gestures.
Make us a Church that goes forth,
able to reach out to the peripheries,
to console those who are lonely,
and to sow fraternity and connection instead of giving in to indifference.

Lord,
may our urban communities
be open and welcoming homes,
places where hope is shared,
where no one feels invisible,
and where the joy of Your Gospel shines
in the hidden lives of so many brothers and sisters.

Make us your witnesses in the city,
bold and creative missionaries,
who proclaim Your Love with their lives -
a Love capable of overcoming haste, noise, and anonymity.

Amen.
