We live in a world that celebrates the spotlight. Jesus, however, directs our gaze to what's hidden beneath all the show. In the Gospel, He gently instructs us: keep our righteousness secret. Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Pray behind closed doors. Fast with a joyful, unreadable face. Why? Prayer, fasting and almsgiving lose their soul when they become public displays. What is shown for human admiration is already paid in full. But what is done in secret, unseen and uncelebrated, is seen by the Father, Who then rewards us.

Yet, this call to hiddenness seems the opposite of Elisha's experience. He witnesses Elijah taken up to heaven. This vision strengthens him and gives him a double share of Elijah's power - a power meant for mission and not vanity - a reward not meant for the praise of people. It is a grace given through something seen, and in a way publicly displayed, but not to be praised for human admiration.

These two readings form a meaningful paradox for us today. Our daily Christian living is built on hidden acts of piety, but these hidden acts, cultivated in obscurity, prepare us to be public witnesses like Elisha, with the courage to live such good lives that comes from knowing that the Father who sees in secret is also the God Who empowers openly.

Lord, strengthen me in my quiet witness to You in daily life.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day jul be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
