There are moments when life feels like the pages of Lamentations, raw and unfiltered - when the Lord seems to have "shattered" our "strongholds." In such moments, we might wonder if God hears. Yet the Gospel today provides an answer. A centurion comes to Jesus with a simple, urgent plea for the healing of his servant without hiding his distress. Then, in the home of Peter, Jesus sees his mother-in-law sick with fever. He cures both. In both moments, pain is real, but so is faith. Matthew concludes with the consoling words, "He took our sicknesses away and carried our diseases for us."

Here is our hope. The examples today show that all turn to God instead of away. The same Lord Who heard Israel's cries in the dust hears ours. The same Jesus Who responded to the centurion's pain and a woman's fever responds to ours. We are invited to be honest - to cry out, to lament, to bring our suffering before God without pretense. It's a powerful reminder that faith does not silence our anguish, but it gives us courage to voice it. This does not mean that we are spared all trials, but that we are never alone. Our tribulations do not signal God's absence. They become the very ground where we encounter His compassion. In faith, we persevere, trusting that the One Who carried our diseases carries us still. Let us pour out our hearts, for He is already bending near.

Lord Jesus, heal me in my afflictions and accompany me in my troubles.
