NOVENA TO THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS

3 to 11 June 2026

It is a traditional devotion seeking special graces by meditating on Christ’s love for nine consecutive days prior to the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (this year on 12 June 2026). It is commonly prayed by reciting a specific daily prayer, an intention, and the Litany of the Sacred Heart, often focusing on trust, mercy, and submission to God’s Will.

Day 1 Wed, 3 Jun - The Heart of Christ Loved Us First

Scripture: We love because he first loved us. (1 Jn 4:19)

Reflection: Before any effort of ours, we are already loved by God, for God takes the initiative to love. This truth grounds our identity as a loved child of God, not in any achievements of ours, but in grace. The Sacred Heart of Jesus reminds us that God’s love is real and always takes the first step to reach out to us; it’s not a response. Each day, we can begin anew not by striving harder but by receiving more deeply. Let this love of God soften our fears and quiet our need to prove ourselves. In prayer, simply remain with God who already loves you.

Daily Prayer: O my Jesus, I love You because You first love us.
Standing before this great love of Yours, I ask for (name your request here).
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be to the Father…

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. Amen.

Day 2 Thu, Jun 4 - A Human Heart That Feels

Scripture: When He (Jesus) saw the crowds, He had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. (Mt 9:36)

Reflection: Jesus does not love abstractly; He loves with a human heart. He feels compassion, sorrow, and joy. His Sacred Heart assures us that God understands our emotions from within. Nothing we experience is foreign to Him. When we are overwhelmed, we can rest in a Heart that has known suffering and pain. To follow Him is to allow our own hearts to become more tender, more patient, and more open to others’ pain

Prayer: O my Jesus, You have great compassion for those who are marginalised and suffering. Within this tender loving Heart of Yours, I ask for (name your request here).
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be to the Father
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

Day 3 Fri, Jun 5 - Love That Seeks the Lost

Scripture: For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. (Lk 19:10)

Reflection: The Heart of Christ goes out in search of those who are far away. He does not wait passively. His love is active, persistent, and personal. We are called to reflect this same movement by reaching out, and not closing in. In daily life, this may mean a message, a kind word, or a willingness to forgive. A heart united to the Heart of Christ cannot remain apathetic or indifferent; it becomes a heart that seeks and welcomes. May our respective hearts reach out to other hearts, just as the Heart of Christ reaches out.

Prayer: O my Jesus, just as Your Heart reaches out to others, help my heart to reach out to others too. Therefore, in reaching out, I ask for (name your request here).
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be to the Father…
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

Day 4 Sat, Jun 5 - Wounded Yet Giving

Scripture: God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Rom 5:8)

Reflection: The pierced Heart of Jesus reveals a love that gives even when it is wounded. Rather than withdrawing, He pours Himself out. Our instinct may be to protect ourselves from hurt, but Christ shows another way: to love without counting the cost, to toil without seeking for rest, to labour without seeking for reward. This does not mean ignoring pain, but offering it. In our wounds, we can either harden or become more compassionate. The Sacred Heart invites us to transform suffering into a deeper capacity to love.
Prayer: O my Jesus, Your Heart was pierced for me when I’m still a sinner. I’m sorry for my sins. I love You in return and I ask for (name your request here).
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be to the Father…
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

Day 5 Sun, Jun 7 - The Quiet Language of the Heart

Scripture: And after the fire, the sound of a low whisper. And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. (1 Kg 19:12-13)

Reflection: Not all love is expressed in words. The Heart of Jesus speaks in silence, in presence, in fidelity. In a noisy world, we often miss this gentle language of love. Prayer becomes a space where hearts meet without many words. Today, take time to sit quietly before God. Let your heart speak honestly, and listen to God and other people. And let God speak to you in the silence of your heart. Love grows in this hidden and quiet exchange.

Prayer: O my Jesus, within the sacred silence of Your Heart and in the quiet of my heart, I ask for (name your request here).
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be to the Father…
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

Day 6 Mon, Jun 8 - A Heart Open to All

Scripture: Jesus says, “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and whoever comes to Me, I will never cast out.” (Jn 6:37)

Reflection: The Heart of Christ is never closed. It welcomes sinners, strangers, the marginalised, the forgotten. There are no barriers in His love. We are challenged to examine our own hearts: whom do we exclude? Whom do we avoid? To follow Jesus is to widen our hearts, expand the tent of our hearts, making more room for others even when it is uncomfortable. Charity begins when we allow Christ to love others through us.

Prayer: O my Jesus, You open the door of Your Sacred Heart. You warmly receive me and others, and therefore I dare to ask for (name your request here).
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be to the Father…
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

Day 7 Tue, Jun 9 - Remembering His Love

Scripture: Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. (Rom 12:11)

Reflection: To remember the love of Christ is to keep it alive. Forgetfulness leads to coldness, but remembrance rekindles devotion. The Church gives us devotions to the Sacred Heart so that we do not forget how deeply we are loved. In moments of discouragement, recall His goodness. Gratitude becomes a path back to joy and trust. Let us strive to be thankful to God for the Sacred Heart of Jesus Who burns with great love for me. Does my heart in turn burn with great love for Jesus as well as for others?

Prayer: O my Jesus, Your Sacred Heart burns with great love for us despite we being sinners, and therefore, I dare to ask for (name your request here).
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be to the Father…
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

Day 8 Wed, Jun 10 - Love That Repairs

Scripture: Then Peter came up and said to Him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times. (Mt 18:21-22)

Reflection: The Sacred Heart calls us to console and repair – to forgive from the heart – to respond to cold apathy with emphatic love. In a world that often ignores God, even small acts of love and care matter. A prayer, a sacrifice, a hidden act of kindness can be offered in reparation. This is not about guilt, but about love responding to Love – the Love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Our daily sacrifices become a quiet offering. Our daily living offers good examples of Christian witness to this Love Who is a Person Who has a great Heart.

Prayer: O my Jesus, with the strength and forgiveness of Your Sacred Heart, I ask for (name your request here).
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be to the Father…
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

Day 9 Thu, Jun 11 - Sent Forth from the Heart

Scripture: And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the Gospel and healing everywhere. (Lk 9:6)

Reflection: We do not remain in the Heart of Christ only for ourselves. We do not dwell within the Sacred Heart just for the consolation of our souls. We are sent out from it. Having encountered His love, we are called and encouraged to become witnesses. The world needs hearts that reflect His love, mercy and compassion. As we prepare for the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus tomorrow, ask for the grace to carry His love into every encounter. A transformed heart becomes a mission – bringing Christ wherever it goes

Prayer: O my Jesus, like Your apostles, I am sent forth to bring the love of Your Sacred Heart to others. Therefore, as Your apostle, I ask for (name your request here).
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be to the Father…
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
