In Galilee, the fishermen went out to fish at night. They returned at first light, deprived of sleep and weary. With their remaining energy, they cleaned their nets that had caught nothing. As they were busy, Jesus appeared before them. Everything changed! Jesus got into the boat with Simon; the one who would be given the keys to the Kingdom and become the Vicar of Christ. Jesus instructed, "Put out into deep water." Though Simon hesitated, he soon obeyed Jesus. The fisherman knew very well that these were unsafe deep waters and that it was daylight already. Do we find ourselves in a "fragile barque" sailing aimlessly through life? Can we trust Jesus to calm the storms of our life when we find life risky and messy?

As the Apostles spread the new-found faith in Jesus Christ through various cities, they were challenged by the livelihood of the people. Corinth was a wealthy trading city with two ports. When Paul visited and stayed for a while, he found the people elevating human leaders. He insisted that "there is nothing to boast about in anything human." Ultimately, they must rely on God by belonging to Christ Who is the Head. Jesus Christ is the foundation stone for all human thinking and activity. Do we have Jesus as the centre of our lives? Will we remain steadfast in our faith and draw courageous men and women to follow Jesus?
