The Jews do not accept Jesus, they do not believe in Him because they are caught up in their own prejudices and expectations. Jesus, in His love and mercy asks them to be open to the Father and to allow themselves to be drawn by Him. Jesus said that "no one can come to him unless the Father draws him." Yes, if they allow themselves to be taught by God, they will come to Jesus. They would see Jesus, God's Word made flesh and they would be nourished by Jesus' love.
To each person, God gives something that captures and symbolises what that individual is seeking. If that person responds, that is the beginning of faith. Having faith in God is to believe in Jesus. To accept God's offer in Jesus is to discover a life-giving relationship now and in the world to come. Jesus laid down His life that we might pass from the 'darkness' and 'emptiness' of sin into a communion of life and love with Himself and His Father. As the 'Living Bread' Jesus is endowed with the power to bring us life. Because He is the 'Living Bread', the eucharist is indeed a celebration of His life and power. Let us thank God for the gift of Jesus, the 'Living Bread'.
O God, I trust in You. Teach me Your ways so that I may follow Jesus closely and faithfully. Amen.
