"Although He was Son, He learnt to obey through suffering ... He became ... the source of eternal salvation."

It is no coincidence that the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows comes immediately after that of the Triumph of the Cross. The glory of the Resurrection is only possible because of the Passion and Death of Christ, and through it all, the still and suffering figure of His Mother bore witness to the pain and powerlessness of humankind in the face of its own redemption.

Mary and Joseph in an inexplicable way represent the human condition in the Christian mystery. Knowing the role of their Son, yet, not knowing how it could be fulfilled; constantly being surprised by the difficult pathways to which their destiny called them. Yet they held on to their trust and faith in the God of Israel who seemed to promise only pain and suffering in return for a salvation they could not yet understand.

Mary and Joseph, you who shared your life with Christ, teach us to share this suffering so that we may enter into His glory.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
