Today's Gospel shows Jesus going to dinner at the home of a wealthy Pharisee named Simon. When the banquet has already begun, suddenly a woman comes into the room. This woman is publicly known to be a sinner. Here we can see another example of the greatness of Christ's heart. Despite her many faults, the woman is understood and pardoned by Jesus. We may wonder whether she has already listened to Him preach. Her resolution to sin no more has now come to fruition. Her love for Jesus has given her the daring to interrupt the banquet, contrary to all the Jewish customs of the time. Surely those attending the meal were shocked and taken aback by this unexpected arrival. The woman becomes the center of attention. This is why there is no regret for the lack of hospitality shown to the Master.

The bad manners of Simon are in clear contrast to the generous behaviour of the public sinner, "her kissing and weeping at the feet of Jesus and her anointing them with a precious ointment". And so in the face of the negative feelings of those present, Jesus deliberately moves to reveal a supernatural lesson. Jesus proclaims the reward of her loving service, "I tell you, her sins which are many are forgiven, for she loved much". These words should be of great consolation to us sinners.

How much do we love Jesus who has forgiven us so many times and in so many ways?

Lord, thank You for forgiving me.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
