The gospels tell about "the Twelve" apostles that Jesus chose who went with Him as He preached the Good News, healed people, and revealed God's power and presence. We know all their names. It's only St Luke's gospel that says there were also "several" women who were part of the small crowd that went with Jesus through the towns and villages of the Holy Land. They were all women who in some way were indebted to Jesus because He had healed them. And Luke gives us three of their names. Their gratitude to Jesus expressed itself in a practical show of love and unselfish service, "out of their own pockets" (as we might say these days). These grateful women "provided for" Jesus and His twelve. What might this 'providing' include ? It must have been quite a task and an important one. They were part of a rather large group of people who travelled around with Jesus. The women perhaps helped to organise listeners and found places for the group to rest or stay, or may have looked after the children who came. It was in any case a "labour of love", serving other people.

Lord, may all of us who recognise our indebtedness to Jesus' mercy and love for us, and who call ourselves His followers, likewise provide for Him and His present-day disciples by giving an unselfish service of love and labour to other people in whatever ways we can.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
