Jesus is the Bread of Life. We must not limit this concept to Jesus in the Eucharist. The Eucharist is the sacramental sign of Jesus who is a total source of nourishment for our lives. He feeds our bodies with all the material needs we have, our mind in its search for truth and meaning, our spirit in its longing to experience God's love, freedom and peace.

The Ethiopian eunuch was a man hungry for the food of truth which he searched for in the scripture. Through Philip his eyes were opened to understand and his hunger was satisfied. He believed and he was baptized. How many people are waiting to be brought to the Bread of Life by me - perhaps this very day? It can often be done so simply - by the way I relate to people, by a kind word, by a challenging word or by way of direct invitation to dip into God's Word or to join in a gathering of Christians united in prayer. There are many very hungry people, some of them materially affluent, all around us waiting to receive nourishment.
