"I am the Good Shepherd. I know my own and my own know me ..."
The image of the Good Shepherd reflects the intimacy which Jesus wishes to relate to us. This implies a deep mutual knowledge like that of the heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. As His followers (sheep to the Shepherd), do we really know who Jesus is to us? How do we relate to Him?
Christ's sacrificial and total love for us by His death on the cross was His own choice made out of obedience to His Father. Do we accept with total trust and confidence this unconditional love of God for us? How does this reflect in our lives?
As Easter people let us take up the challenge to live lives worthy of praise to God especially in our reaching out to those who are 'lost' in our midst. Do we reflect the image of a good shepherd to those entrusted to our care?
"Resurrected Saviour and Lord, we thank You for Your total and unconditional love for us in and through Your death on the Cross. Help us place our complete confidence in this great act of love and strive to do likewise to those around us."
