In the Acts of the Apostles we read how Paul preached about God to the people in Athens. Paul remarked on their altar inscribed "To an Unknown God". He tried to convince them that in fact they were already worshipping the God whom He proclaimed. He claimed that it was this God who had created all that the people of Athens had and that though they did not know it they were worshipping the God whom Paul knew as God the Father. It is interesting to note how some people who had been with the crowd laughing at Paul when he had mentioned rising from the dead, decided to become believers.
Often in life we do not know how much influence our beliefs have on the people around us so we should never be reticent to speak about Jesus even when we are in the company of non-believers. It is when we are forthright and show by our words and deeds truly what we believe, that we influence others far more than what we thought was possible. John's Gospel talks about the Holy Spirit. If we remain open to the Holy Spirit then this will lead us to God. It seems that we should always try to discern the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives so that ultimately we will know and love God.
Lord, deepen in us the desire to proclaim You to others.
