When we look around us, it seems as though things are going out of control. Almost daily we experience situations or we hear news that leaves us with a sense of helplessness or even worse, hopelessness. It is as though injustice, violence, corruption and evil are triumphing over all that is just, pure, honourable, just and good.
In the face of such situations, we may ask, "Does God really care about what is happening in the world?"
If there is a common thread that runs through the scripture readings and psalm for the day it is that God is in control regardless the situation.
In the first reading we learn how God rescues and protects the apostles from those who wish to harm them. The psalm reminds us that God watches over those who seek and cry out to Him. In the Gospel we read how God takes the initiative to send His Son, Jesus to bring salvation to the world.
So, as far as God is concerned, nothing or no one can stand in His way or His plan. His light always triumphs over darkness and His goodness over evil.
Lord, help us always to trust You in all circumstances.
