In the first reading, Peter's powerful proclamation of Jesus' messianic status and resurrection deeply impacts the listeners. They desire for a new beginning, and are willing to repent and be baptised. Peter's personal testimony of the Risen Lord brought about the conversion of 3000 believers. Every time we listen to the Word of God, do we also examine our lives and ask the same question: what shall we do and how shall we witness to Christ?

The Gospel text today narrates the personal encounter of Mary of Magdala and the Risen Lord. She is weeping outside the empty tomb, lost in her sorrow and unable to recognise Him initially, until Jesus calls her by name and that penetrates her darkness. Hearing His voice, Mary, by turning around, has a moment of awakening. It changes the relationship of Mary with Jesus. Jesus invites her to go beyond their present relationship, one that is no longer based on personal attachment and piety. Jesus relates with her in a new way by calling her to mission; to be an apostle, to witness to the Resurrection of Jesus.

With a sincere heart in seeking God, we too echo with Mary of Magdala "I have seen the Lord," and commit our lives to Him in loving service and witness. Also, like Peter, we are bold enough to witness Christ.

Risen Lord, I bear witness to Your glorious resurrection.
