The crippled man lying by the gate was begging for money to sustain him, but Peter had something far greater in mind. He stated flatly that he had no silver or gold, but instead he gave the crippled man a treasure indeed - healing in the name of Jesus. This was Jesus at work - even though He had risen from the dead and returned to heaven, His ministry continued. And it continues to this day at the hands of all who are rooted in faith, hope, and love.

How often do we feel crushed and despondent when we experience the hard blows that life can bring? Jesus walked unrecognised beside the two disciples as they poured out their grief and disappointment. Finally, He had had enough - He stopped and scolded them gently for their lack of understanding. He assured them that His death and resurrection were necessary and all part of the divine plan. Then He unlocked the inner meaning of Scripture for them. After He disappeared as He ate with them, the two disciples remarked that their hearts had burned within them whenever Jesus spoke of the passages in Scripture that pertained to Him. It was in the breaking of the bread and the opening of Scripture that they met the Lord. Jesus always walks beside us and is willing to open the inner meaning of the Scriptures and the events of our lives. He breaks bread and breaks the Word for us.

Lord Jesus, open the Word and break the Bread for me to sustain me daily.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day jul be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
For priests in crisis.
Let us pray for priests going through moments of crisis in their vocation, that they may find the accompaniment they need and that communities may support them with understanding and prayer.
