When the people of Jerusalem were abandoned, God Himself cared for them, adorning them with beauty, richness, and dignity until they became renowned among the nations. Yet they responded with ingratitude. They turned away from Him, making themselves like harlots, surrendering to the temptations of the world, the devil, and the flesh. These indulgences ultimately led them into desolation. Even so, the Lord remained faithful. He continued to love them, establishing an everlasting covenant and refusing to abandon them.

If Jerusalem stands as a tragic example of love unfaithful to God, today's Gospel calls us more urgently to the opposite - witness of faithfulness. Whatever state of life we are called to, whether married, single, consecrated, priestly, or those who have renounced marriage for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven, we are all invited to reflect the faithfulness of God towards His people, becoming living signs of His undivided love.

To live otherwise is to become a distorted image of God's eternal fidelity. “Love is repaid by love alone,” said John of the Cross (Spiritual Canticle 9:7). The Lord loves us with an everlasting love; therefore, we too must strive to love Him with the fullness of our hearts and the whole of our lives, even though our human love can never compare with His.
